Jim was born and raised in Boonville. He graduated from Boonville High School, and is an alumni of Indiana University with a degree in Health and Safety/Biology. He also earned a Masters Degree in Sports Medicine from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, AL. Jim was an Athletic Trainer for the United States Olympic Team in 1996 and 2000.

While serving on the Executive Boards of the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association and Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association, and acting as Governmental Affairs Chairman, Jim was responsible for budgeting, evaluating requests for money and helping to establish policy over a 6 state region.. He also assisted in vetting requests and distributing over 1.5 million in grant money and worked with State and National legislators to develop laws governing the safety of our youth.

After teaching and serving as an athletic trainer for nearly 40 years in Huntingburg, Peru, IN, Hobbs, New Mexico and Boonville, Jim retired from the Warrick County School Corporation in 2017. He is currently the District 4 City Councilman for Boonville and serves on the Board of Directors for Boonville Now. Jim lives with his wife, Tammy and has three children and 6 grandchildren.
